SPMT 430 - Week #3 - Sports Talk of the Washington Commanders NFL Week 1
Well, football is back, and as a Washington Commanders fan, formerly known as the Washington Football team a.k.a. Washington Redskins, played their first game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Being raised a Washington football team fan thanks to my grandfather, I always look forward to games but with a grain of salt each time. Historically speaking from personal experience, the Washington football team is the underdog of the NFC East, and my friends and I's expectations for the team are realistic. Yes, my friends and I who are Washington fans want the team to win, but if we lose it's to be expected and it is not a big deal for us. But we are optimistic fans, who always want the best performance out of the Washington team, especially after all the changes after the former owner Dan Snyder sold the rights to the team. With a new owner, or owners, came with roster, staff, and coach changes, we were looking forward to a win for the first week of the NFL season, to start off strong.
Unfortunately, that was not the case this first week of the NFL, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat my Washington Commanders by 37 - 20 points. My friends and I were watching the game in our separate homes and immediately jumped into our group chat and said, " New owner, new QB, same old redskins... sigh* ". Even though our favorite team lost, it was nice to talk to my friends who are either scattered across the U.S. or simply too busy to meet up in person to watch the first game, it was nice to gather at a certain point in time to speak to each other again. We're all adults busy with our separate livelihoods, but thanks to the start of the NFL season, it gave us a reason to reconnect with each other to communicate through sports. In this case, talk about our realistic expectations for the Washington Commanders and the start of this NFL season with all of the new changes.
